Writing can be lonely— this we know! But also, there aren’t always people in our lives who understand what we are doing. They don’t understand the many highs and lows that can happen in just one writing session. Or why sometimes our own writing makes us cry or why we fight so damn hard to fit in time to write at all. We might not have people in our lives that we brag to about all the little writing wins or tiny victories.
Like when you get a new story idea. Or when you figured out a new way into a scene of dialogue. Or when you finally know what to name your main character. Or when you aimed to write 500 words that day, but you ended up with 750. These moments often aren’t celebrated or overshadowed by goalposts that feel more important, like publication, getting an agent, or selling your book. And while, of course, we all strive for those things, we also have to spend the majority of our writing life in the small moments—word by word, paragraph by paragraph, page by page.
So, if you don’t have anyone to brag to today, let’s share our little writing victories with each other today and start the week off with a feeling of accomplishment. No matter how tiny <3

I’m honestly so excited to read your comments. Be as absolutely nerdy as you want to. We are all writers here, so we get it!
If you are new to In the Weeds, here are some of my most recent posts, including how to join my currently in progress 90 Day Novel Challenge:
✍️ Hi I’m Kailey! I’m currently working on a revision of my novel for my agent. I’m moving chapter by chapter and reworking a number of scenes. I’m aiming to send it to her by the end of the month. Fingers crossed!
🦋 here at In the Weeds, I’ve been sharing about my novel writing process as I navigate the journey through multiple drafts, querying and getting an agent. I also share about my time working in the service industry and how I’ve used this job to support my writing life.

💎 today I’m celebrating that after six or seven drafts, I FINALLY understand one of my minor characters in a way that is making it easier for me to edit their scenes in my novel. He is coming alive in a way that is exciting me!
I’m Amanda & I’m currently writing a feminist dystopian novel. My small win is handing my book off to beta readers and beginning to see their comments — and realizing that people can see the vision that I have with my idea! I write about the process & the power of storytelling over on STORIES NEVER DIE 🫶🏻 https://open.substack.com/pub/storiesneverdie
