A very mine-bending novel about a social worker (in case you're looking for recs!) is Jen Sookfong Lee's "The Conjoined". Totally different vibe - I would describe it as literary crime/noir - but it's fantastic.

I enjoyed Brass a few years ago. I read Jen Beagin’s other novel Big Swiss last year, so I’ll have to check out this one.
The best thing I read in 2023 was from a social worker in Baltimore: Eleven Things I Have Left Now That My Daughter is Gone.
